Providing the necessary foundation
Addressing the basic human needs of our community is critical to achieving success in all other measures of wellbeing. The Zilber Family Foundation wants all of our neighbors to have the resources and opportunities to thrive – but that can’t happen when people are experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, mental health challenges, drug and alcohol addiction, and lack of access to other necessities.
Why It Matters
When provided essential services to address these challenges, people can focus their attention on attaining other opportunities for social and economic stability and mobility. Access to basic needs not only enhances individual wellbeing, but contributes to the resilience and sustainability of communities.
The provision of basic needs can restore a sense of dignity to many in need. It is an essential step toward empowering individuals and communities. By prioritizing basic needs within communities, we create a ripple effect that extends far beyond individual lives, fostering the growth of resilient and empowered neighborhoods and communities.
How We’re Helping
The Zilber Family Foundation supports nonprofit organizations focused on homeless services, substance use treatment, mental health, and family/domestic violence support. The Foundation’s “Basic Needs” program area focuses on supporting a strong social safety net that helps pave the way to opportunities for individuals to reach their full potential, regardless of their current obstacles. Our support for basic needs provides a necessary foundation for all of our other work.
